Deionized water, soft brush, no pressure
Deionized water is water with its dissolved minerals removed. When it dries there is nothing left behind, so the glass comes out spot-free instead of streaked with the calcium and salt that tap water leaves. A soft-bristle brush on a water-fed pole lifts pollen film, dust, salt, algae, and bird droppings without touching the anti-reflective coating on the glass.
We never pressure wash. Pressure can crack cells, force water past the edge seals, and strip the coating, and most manufacturers void the warranty if it is used. Deionized water and soft brushes are the method they specify, so nothing about our process affects the manufacturer warranty.
Tile, metal, and shingle roofs
Most of the roofs between Fort Lauderdale and Boca Raton are barrel or flat concrete tile, and tile cracks underfoot. We clean tile roofs from water-fed poles wherever the array can be reached from the ground, a ladder, or the roof edge. When we do have to be on tile, we use walk pads and step on the overlap, never the field of the tile. That is the difference between a solar panel cleaner and a pressure-washing crew with a ladder.

Does rain clean my panels?
No. Rain rinses loose dust off the glass and that is all. Overnight dew and daytime humidity cement fine particles and pollen to the surface, so by the second day the film is back and bonded. When rainwater dries it leaves mineral spots of its own. Salt film near the coast and bird droppings do not rinse off at all. If rain cleaned panels, no one in Florida would need this page.
How often
Twice a year for most homes: once in May, after the pollen tail and before the wet season, and once in November, when hurricane season ends and the dry season begins. Those two dates catch the pollen, the Saharan dust, and the storm debris.
